Old County Christy Broe Scratch Cup ResultsLadies and Gentlemen, yesterday Sunday 3rd October 2021 we hosted our Old County Christy Broe Scratch Cup. Fantastic to welcome back so many players from different clubs throughout Ireland for the first time since 2019. Over 25 different Clubs participated some visiting from nearby and others coming from afar. Thank you all very much for your support its very much appreciated. Play started from 8.30am with the last 3 ball finishing shortly after 7pm as darkness descended. The man himself, Christy Broe, was there to welcome old and new friends to the Club. We hope everyone who played enjoyed the day, feed back on the standard of the course and the quality of the greens was very positive throughout the day. A lot of work goes into the Course, from Stephen Murray’s expertise together with the hard work of the rest of the grounds team. Hats off to yeee all. Thank you very much to our sponsors, Capital Credit Union, for your generous support. Thank you. Christy Broe Scratch Cup one year on !!Today would have marked the staging of our scratch cup. A brand new slot in prime time June. Looking out at the weather it was a cloudy start and the sun was to come out in the afternoon. It would have been reasonable to assume the crowds might have come and competition would have been intense. Despite the drought conditions the course too would have played well and offered a challenge to the players. Alas it wasn't to be. So we take a quick look back at August 18th 2019. The 1st staging of the Christy Broe scratch cup. The numbers were not too bad and the weather was ok too, but the day was really about one man who was there from 8am to greet the early starters and spent the whole day there thanking everyone who came to support the day. Just 13 days previous the club had hosted the Dublin County Board Scratch Cup and another icon of Dublin pitch & putt John Smith was there like Christy to thank all those who played in his event. We would have liked an Old County winner in that one, Karl Murphy came close just three shots shy of the all conquering JR Crangle at his score of -24. JR was to miss Christy's one but Karl's game had gone up another notch in those 13 days and although he did not lead after 36 holes another OC favourite George McGreal had that honour Karl was well placed on his shoulder and Karl dug deep to learn from the DCB one and delivered a stunning 45 in his final round to win by a shot. George finished on -22 and Gary McGreal on -21. It was a top three for Old County. Karl spoke so well at his speech he knew just what the day meant to Christy and he was overjoyed to win his 1st scratch cup and for it to be the 1st staging of the Christy Broe scratch cup make it that bit extra special. Irene and young Christopher and grandson Jack were there to see the presentation and pose for photos with Karl. It was the perfect end to the perfect day for Christy. The 2020 event would have been on the eve of Christy's birthday and I'm sure he would have enjoyed spending it in the club with friends. You can look back at the 2019 event by clicking here. We hope Christy has a great birthday on Monday and who knows whether we can still host it in 2020. We live in hope if not hopefully 2021 will be extra special. 2019 event

Scratch Cup Renamed the Christy Broe Scratch Cup in 2019Our Scratch Cup was renamed after our long time & devoted member Christy Broe. Christy name is well known throughout pitch & putt circle for the many roles he has held and his dedication to the sport. In addition to his long tenure as Dublin County Board Chairman, Christy was inducted into the PPUI Hall of Fame in 2009 as recognition of this service. The 1st staging of the Christy Broe Scratch cup was held in 2019. Our sponsors on that occasion was National Autoports who were with us throout out the previous 10 years. Christy was on hand to meet and greet all who took part and presented all of the winners with their prizes. It was a great honour that the 1st winner was an Old County gent with Karl Murphy winning In 2020 with the Covid Virus at its peak we had no scratch Cup. The Scratch Cp returned in 2021 and a late date of 03rd October was chosen. We saw our 1st outside winner of the Scratch Cup ( since it was renamed) it was Sean Goggins who has been a staunch supporter of our scratch cup for many years. Sean carded an impressive 90 to seal the top prize. Our most recent one again saw a new date and a nice on in high Summer and it was a local Old County player who took the top prize with Andy Lowe Triumphing with a 93. He just saw off the previous winner in 2019 Karl Murphy to add a third new name to the cup. We will announce 2023 date in due course and see if we get a new winner or a repeat from Karl / Sean and Andy. We hope to see Christy on top form on the day as well with some fine weather to boot.
