It was a case of so near and yet so far for Tom O'Reilly as he missed out on a 2nd Dublin title in Lucan on Sunday. The 2013 Strokeplay champion was hoping to add the matchplay crown to the strokeplay one. Having beaten George McGreal, Aaron O'Droighneainn and Philip Sweeney on Saturday. Tom made a slow start on Sunday morning 2 down after 9, but he roared back with a glut of birdies and sealed the win on the 17th. Tom was up against Anthony Malone who had defeated Chris Gallagher on the 12th. Tom won the opening hole as "Skinner" Malone had a bogey but the Lucan man was level  with a chip in after 2. It was even for most of the front nine but the the 3 time Matchplay champion edged ahead after 9. Crucially for Tom he lost 13th and 14th to fall three down and when Malone putted in off the back of the 18th, he was 4 down at the turn. 

In the 2nd 18 Tom needed a fast start and he got a good one winning the 2nd and narrowly missing the 3rd, but was back to 2 down after 6. He couldn't though get closer as the holes started to run out and despite a long birdie to half the 12th he was to lose 13th and when he was short on 14th, his chances were fading fast. There was to be no recovery and Malone won his 4th Matchplay title on the 15th. A Great effort from Tom though. 

In the Inter Lennon Blake was up against Tom McMorrow and Tom was to prove too strong for Lennon winning on the 17th. Lennon had beaten Noel Ryan and Wayne Fogarty on route to the final 4. Still though after his GAA win, it was another excellent week for the young man who was singled out as a real star in the making by the DCB Chairman in his speech.

The club will have two players in the Dublin Matchplay when the event concludes on Sunday morning. The Gents Seniors semi-finals will see our own Tom O'Reilly up against Paddy Noonan and in the other semi-final, Chris Gallagher plays Anthony Malone in an all Lucan Affair. In the Gents Inters, Lennon Blake plays Lucan's Tom McMorrow and David Hsyden II plays David Horan. Sadly our ladies lost out on SAturday. The semi-finals should tee off around 09.30 with the finals due to start at 11.30. We wish Tom & Lennon well.
