Ladies and Gentlemen last night was the start of the Sean McDermott Mixed Foursomes Matchplay. There were 8 matches and the results were as follows:

Match 1: Vera Glennon and Tony Byrne won against Teresa Keating and Captain Patrick Charles on the 1st tie hole

Match 2: Dolores Mason and Mal Kellett won against Ann McFarlane and Frank Gallagher on the 4th tie hole

Match 3: Ann O'Shea and Kevin Bermingham won against Bridie Roche and Hugh Barnwell 3&2

Match 4: Deirdre Curran and Gerry Clarges won against Katherine Moore and Denis Grace 2&1

Match 5: Agnes Redmond and Dave Redmond won against Mary Devoy and George Lamon around the 14th or thereabouts

Match 6: Captain Laura Whelan and Stephen Power won against Margaret Collins and John Hanevy 3&2

Match 7: Madeline Nugent and Stephen Murray won against Pauline and Tom Balfe on 18th

Match 8: Joan Palmer and Brian Gorman won against Kathleen Condron and Joe Canning somewhere on 18th

So that leaves us with the Quarter Finals and Semi- Finals to be played tonight. The Quarter Finals are as follows:

Quarter Final 1: Vera Glennon and Tony Byrne   v   Dolores Mason and Mal Kellett (no shots in this match)

Quarter Final 2: Ann O'Shea and Kevin Bermingham   v   Deirdre Curran and Gerry Clarges  (Deirdre and Gerry receive 2 shots)

Quarter Final 3: President Agnes Redmond and Dave Redmond   v   Captain Laura Whelan and Stephen Power (Agnes and Dave have 2 shots)

Quarter Final 4:  Madeline Nugent and Stephen Murray   v   Joan Palmer and Brian Gorman  (Joan and Brian have 4 shots)
