After the Captains Prize, which is our second chase 100 event, the Player of the Year, Champions Chase leaderboard has got a lot tighter in both the Ladies and Gents chase.  Stephen Murray leads the Gents by a mere 10 points from Jamie Power with a bit of a gap to Tom O’Reilly in 3^rd place.  The Ladies has joint leaders in Kathleen Condron and Vera Glennon with Lucy Quinn laying a drift in 3^rd place.  This is really only the half way point in the season and a lot can happen over the remaining summer months so as we head towards our Officers Prize and Club Matchlpay who will be in prime position come August.

After the first of the Chase 100 Events, the Ladies and Gents Player of the Year Champions Chase has taking some shape.  The Gents leader is Stephen Murray after his Club Strokeplay win, closely followed by Jamie Power who won the Inter Gents Strokeplay. In the Ladies, Vera Glennon leads after winning the Ladies Club Strokeplay with Kathleen Condron and Ann Redmond close behind.

We head into our second Chase 100 Event next week with the Captains Prize and the points available are as follows;

Captains Prize:   Winner 100 pts

Runner Up / 36G (O/A): 80 pts

36N: 60 pts, 36G: 50 pts, 18N: 40 pts

Standings

The 2016 season is now underway and one of the biggest prizes of the season will be the Champions Chase, our Ladies & Gents Player of the Year.  The gents has been dominated by Tom O’Reilly for the past 3 years and I am sure a lot more players will be keen to make it hard work for Tom getting 4 in a row.  The Ladies has been shared around between Claire Keatinge, Pauline Balfe and Vera Glennon who are the lowest handicap players in the Ladies.  Can the higher handicap ladies show the consistency to topple these 3 top players?  It should be an interesting and tense season in the Champions Chase.

The Fr Pat Trophy was a Chase 50 event and valuable points were available in all the grades.  The early leader in the Gents is Frank Gallaher after his great win in the Fr Pat and in the Ladies Vera Glennon has started off the quickest winning in the first two competitions.

Player of the Year System

The Player of the Year Champions Chase for the Ladies and Gents was decided before the weekends Anniversary Trophy but both Pauline and Tom increased their points tally as both won prizes in the Anniversary Trophy to round off their excellent seasons.  It was second place that was up of grabs in both chases and in the Gents, the 3 men chasing the runner up spot didn't make the winners enclosure so Kevin Bermingham finished as they started.  In the Ladies despite not winning, Vera Moore finished runner up.

This is the 3^rd year in a row that Tom has won the Player of the Year, a fantastic achievement and testament to his level of consistency and scoring that increases year after year.  For Pauline it is her first Player of the Year, hard to believe given her standard of play but this was overdue and her level of play this year has been second to none.  We have certainly got two very deserving winners, congrats Pauline and Tom.

The presentation will take place at the Xmas party on the 19^th December.
